I lavish God Almighty with plenty of praises giving me the chance to serve
His people at St. Maria Goretti Rombo Girls’ Secondary School. It was Henry Ford that sagely said, “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”
Allow me also to thank the editorial team for accepting this noble duty of churning out the first edition of the school magazine. This, indeed, is not a mean feat. For in Ecclesiastes 12:12 the wise man observed, “Of publishing many books, there is no end.”
I express my gratitude to everyone who took part in this project. It lends a cache of credence to the wise words of John C. Maxwell, “It takes teamwork to make the dream work.” It has always been my desire to have a school magazine, for this is the best way to link up with the rest of the world. This document will help us build our brand with brilliance. This production will also hone the imaginative, creative and innovative skills inherent in people involved in the process. It will provide infinite spectrum of opportunities for them to put pen on paper – and in turn,
strengthen their writing muscles. St. Maria Goretti Rombo Girls’ Secondary School is anchored on precious pious principles like prayer. The entire school sorority strongly believes that prayer, discipline and hard work, are the keys to success.
That achievement without hard work is impossible. If we want something under the bed, then we must bend. An idle person can never gain anything if they sit and wait for better opportunities to show up. Romans 8:19, points out that the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the manifestation of the sons of God.
Man is born to work, for work is worship. Work infuses our lives with worth. Hard work is a virtue, but laziness is a vice. The 16th American President, Abraham Lincoln was born in a log cabin in the forest. He could not afford a lamp. He just read borrowed books with the light of the fire. But through diligence, dedication and determination, he rose to stardom. He dreamt, dared, and did it. No wonder, he had the confidence to say: “The best way to predict our future is to create it.”
Education happens to be the greatest equalizer. It is what can make the child of a peasant sit on the same table with the child of a king. Therefore, it must be what prompted Chinua Achebe to say, “A child who has washed his hands will dine and wine with kings.”
St. Maria Goretti Rombo Girls’ is a national school in the making. Our strength lies in a strong spiritual background, disciplined students; a committed staff, and a supportive board of management (BoM). I acknowledge the part played by every team member. For it can always be done, we just need to play our part.
As the School Principal, my vision is to build the existing team to enhance peak performance. Our main agenda is to improve the life of the girl child by enabling her to access quality education. Our main business in this corner of the world is to impart useful values, attitudes and skills to help them achieve their dreams. For dreams are the seedlings of reality. One person’s dream is another person’s reality.
At this juncture, I would like to thank my predecessor Sr. Anastasia Nkoyiai (Sr. Mary Charles) for setting a good foundation at St. Maria Goretti Rombo Girls’ Secondary School. In 1 Corinthians 3:6, Paul put it aptly, “I planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.”
I thank the Board of Management (BoM) for the steadfast support they gave to Sr. Anastasia Nkoyiai that has now given me an easy time to steer the school. I also thank the incumbent BoM for the pace they have set which inspires the school dream team to keep the fire of hard work ablaze. Without forgetting those who work behind the curtains, the support staff for their commitment and selfless service. The school cannot do without you. The parents for the tremendous support they have accorded the school. Not forgetting the St. Charles Lwanga Rombo Parish for spiritual nourishment. Indeed, the Ubuntu slogan holds a lot of heft: I am because we are.
May the Almighty God bless us all and grant us the graces to help us remain focused like laser beams, positive and optimistic. For perpetual optimism is a force multiplier. We are highly privileged to be planted in this great learning environment. Like Joseph son of Jacob, we shall blossom. We shall grow and glow. We shall rise and show our shine and sheen.
Our heartfelt desire is to love, serve divinity, humanity and remain united as brought out in Psalms 133,
“Behold, how good and how pleasant is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s head that went down to the skirts of his garments. As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion; for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life forevermore.”
